At its core, chaplaincy is about relationship. Chaplains work to co-create relational space with the people they come to be with. This safe relational space allows for the exploration of thoughts, feelings and questions that may surround the experiences that you are having. Chaplains work to facilitate what we like to call meaning making. Meaning making is about how to connect experiences to your own values and core beliefs. A skilled chaplain does not come into the relational space with a presumption or an agenda on what may be the “right” way to navigate life’s many challenges. A skilled chaplain comes to the relational space with openness, acceptance and compassion to accompany you on the journey.
